Guided Hike to Snøhetta from Oppdal Book

Sigbjørn Frengen, Oppdal Safari

Join a guided hike to Snøhetta from Oppdal and experience the highest peak in Dovrefjell together with a personal and knowledgeable local guide. Snøhetta is one of Norway’s most famous mountains and has held a special place in Norwegian mountain tradition throughout history — often referred to as a candidate for Norway’s national mountain.

What can you expect from a guided hike to Snøhetta?

The hike starts from Snøheim and continues to the main summit at 2,286 metres above sea level. If weather and trail conditions allow, we will also make a detour to the mid summit, where you can experience the airy drop into the Snøhetta massif. Along the way, the guide shares knowledge about Snøhetta, the history of Dovrefjell, geology, botany, and wildlife such as musk oxen and wild reindeer.

The guide is experienced in mountain terrain and sets a safe pace adapted to the group. During the hike, coffee and light refreshments are served, and time is set aside for breaks and enjoying the views. The tour is suitable for people in moderately good physical condition. The terrain consists largely of rocks and scree, and participants must be prepared for some scrambling. The total ascent is approximately 800 vertical metres, with a total distance of around 12 km round trip.
